Our Mission

The mission of Holding Every Life Precious is to take away the stigma of asking for psychological help by encouraging students to seek counseling as a positive solution. Counseling will provide an outside point of view from someone who is qualified to guide you through issues you may be experiencing.  

 

 

Facts and Myths of Suicide  

MYTH: People who talk about suicide not commit suicide. 

FACT: Of any ten persons who kill themselves, eight have given definite warnings of their suicidal intentions. 

MYTH: Suicidal people are fully intent on dying. 

FACT: Most suicidal people are undecided about living or dying, and they "gamble with death," leaving it to others to save them. Almost no one commits suicide without letting others know how they are feeling. 

MYTH: Once a person is suicidal, they are suicidal forever. 

FACT: Individuals who wish to kill themselves are suicidal only for a limited period of time 

MYTH: Improvement following a suicidal crisis means that the suicidal risk is over 

FACT: Most suicides occur within about three months following the  beginning of "improvement," when the individual has the            energy to put their morbid thought and feelings into effect.

Where to Find H.E.L.P. 

H.E.L.P. can be conveniently found on campus for all students and faculty of WVU. The Carruth Center, located on the third floor of Student Services Center, offers free counseling and psychological services. The center is staffed with professional psychologists who have specific training in working with college students.
